Stewart Monti: A Journey of Service, Education, and Creative Expression Through Poetry

"Professor to Instructor"
Stewart Monti’s journey from a military childhood to a career in the Air Force, where he logged over 2,000 flight hours, seamlessly blends service and creativity. After retiring as a Major, he became an adjunct professor while pursuing his passion for poetry, leading to the publication of two books.
"Poetry in the Air"
Monti began writing poetry early, sharing his work within his community. His first book, 135 Poems for Today (2017), led to his second book, Mary and Sir Edward (2023), with his poems now displayed in local spaces, reflecting the lasting impact of his art. He is now working on a sequel.
"C-130's and Creative Writing"
Monti’s military career as a C-130 pilot and his poetic expression grew side by side. His writings, inspired by his global experiences, evolved from small booklets to published works, offering a unique perspective on both life and service.
"A Lifetime of Learning"
With two master’s degrees and a career as an adjunct instructor, Monti combined his academic achievements with his passion for writing. His work in both fields reflects his lifelong commitment to education and creativity.
"A Life of Service, Poetry, and Reflection"
Stewart Monti was born 1951 in the Appalachian mountains of Bland, Virginia. A military brat, they were at his grandmothers home while his father was fighting in the Korean War. He attended both military high school and the United States Air Force Academy, flew C-130E’s for 2,000 hours all over the world, and had other Air Force jobs to retire as Major. He earned two master’s degrees, helping his Air Force career and his period as an adjunct instructor for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, teaching on both graduate and undergraduate levels. He started writing poetry early, distributing booklets of poems to members of his social clubs, and doing readings regularly to different local organizations. Compiling some of these poems, he published his first book, 135 Poems for Today, in 2017. His second book, Mary and Sir Edward, evolved from a narrative poem, and published in 2023. Samples of his poems have hung in a church thrift shop, a friend’s hair salon, a couple of church kitchen, a railway museum, and numerous private homes in the Greater Sanford NC area, where he now lives with his wife and son. Many of the poems are still there.
